I.The panel of judges consists of renowned experts from China, U.S. and other countries. Under the supervision of the Planning Committee, the judges will evaluate theperformances; the panel’s decision shall serve as the determination of the competition.
II. Competition Categories
A. Entry Level
● Professional (Contestants in the level practice dance for more than 20 hours perweek) ● Amateur A (Contestants in the level practice dance for more than 10 hours perweek) ● Amateur B (Contestants in the level practice dance for less than 10 hours per week)
B. Dance Categories:
● Chinese Folk Dance ● Chinese Classic Dance ● Chinese Classic Dance (Han/Tang Dynasty) ● Ballet ● Contemporary Dance ● Others (i.e. Modern Dance, International Ballroom Dance, Tap, Jazz)
C. Group Categories
● Solo: Soloists are allowed to compete in multiple dance categories, but may only register one performance in each category of dance.
● Duet: Duet performers are allowed to compete in multiple dance categories, but mayonly register one performance in each category of dance.
● Trio: Trio performances are allowed to compete in multiple dance categories, but may only register one performance in each category of dance. ● Group: Group performances are allowed to compete in multiple dance categories, but may only register one performance in each category of dance.
D. Time Limit
● Solo / Duet / Trio: Maximum of 3 minutes ● Small Group (4-10 dancers): Maximum of 5 minutes ● Large Group (11-24 dancers): Maximum of 6 minutes ● Super Group (25+ dancers): Maximum of 8 minutes ● A one (1) point deduction will be made for every 30 seconds the dance exceeds the time limit.
E. Age Categories (as of 1/1/2018)
Amateur Level Professional Level ● Young Children: 5-7 ● Children Group A: 8-10 ● Children Group B: 11-12 ● Teen Group A: 13-15 ● Teen Group B: 16-18 ● Young Adult A: 19-29 ● Young Adult B: 30-35 ● Adult Group A: 36-49 ● Adult Group B: 50-70 ● Teen Group A: 13-15 ● Teen Group B: 16-18 ● Young Adult: 19-35 ● Adult: 36 and up For group performances, the average age of the entire group will be used to determine the age category.
F. Awards ● By Categories and Groups based on judges’ points: ○ Elite Platinum (95-100 points) ○ Platinum (85-94.99 points) ○ Gold - (84.99 points and below) ● Other awards: ○ Judges’ Choice ○ Taoli Spirits (Best Teamwork, Best Techniques, Best Expression, etc.) ● Outstanding Choreographer Award: Platinum and Elite Platinum award winners’ original choreography (indicated in contestants’ entry forms) ● Award for Teaching Excellence: instructors with three or more Platinum and Elite Platinum award winners ● Any of the above mentioned awards can be unfulfilled ● The Planning Committee reserves the rights for final decisions
G. Music
● Competitors are responsible for providing their own music ● Music file must be emailed to the organizer one month before the competition date. Late file submissions may not be accepted. ● Music file must be in “.mp3” format. Other format will not be accepted. ● Competitors are required to bring at least one backup USB drive on the day of the competition in the event of a technical malfunction.
H. Additional Requirement
● Dances should be suitable for audience of any age ● Any promotion of religious beliefs and/or political propaganda is prohibited. ● Solo: US$120 or CA$160 per dance ● Duet/Trio: US$80 or CA$110per dancer per dance ● Small Group (4-10 dancers): US$50 or CA$70 per dancer per dance ● Large Group (11-24 dancers): US$40 or CA$60 per dancer per dance ● Super Group (25+ dancers): US$30 or CA$45 per dancer per dance
